[ooc: This was my, "WTF, the writers are being illogical, and that wouldn't happen" moment, of how, if they were going to insist on 3x06 "Dying of the Light" that this is how it should've gone instead. Because the way it happened made no logical sense. So, there, writers! Uh, possibly spoilery for that ep except AU ending?]

The man in the bed hooked up to the machines that were keeping him alive, though barely, was possibly the last person Adam Monroe expected to see. He stared, shock spreading across his face.

"I heard you were dead..." Glancing back at the doctor and then at the young man who'd brought him here, then back at Arthur, Adam still tried to piece it together. It wasn't hard to guess what Arthur wanted, looking at him there. His blood, obviously, to cure him from whatever had done this to him, to get him up off the bed and then...he must be the one behind the stealing of the formula. Whatever. Adam hardly cared, but it was interesting to consider that Arthur and Angela were pitted against each other.

Then Arthur's thoughts were in his head, dark and twisting inside of him, and for the first time in centuries, Adam knew real fear. "No..." He tried to back away, but the young man, impossibly strong, stopped him, dragging him forward and forcing him to kneel as Arthur reached for him. "Don't do this...!"

But he was doing it, his cold hands tight on Adam's, and he could feel energy pulling out of him, painful almost as it slid along his nerves and filled the man across from him. He struggled, but there was nothing he could do, no escape, and then, just as abruptly as it had begun, it was over. The young man released him, and he slumped slightly, staring up in horror as Arthur pulled the tube from his throat and sat up in the bed, casting a slight smirk at Adam.

"Ah, it feels good to breathe again."

"What have you done?"

"You know exactly what I've done..."

"But why...? I would have given you whatever blood you needed..."

"Very accommodating of you, Adam, but I'd rather be in charge of my own survival this time. But, thank you. For the thought. And the immortality. Knox will show you out. I'm sure you're eager to get a taste of freedom after all these years...consider it my thank you gift."

Adam pushed to his feet, staring at Arthur, trying not to let the horror he felt, the bits of himself that he felt were missing overwhelm him. "How could you do this to me?"

"It's nothing personal. You just had something I wanted." Arthur turned to go, then paused at the door, to glance back over his shoulder. "Oh, Adam...if you see Angela, do tell her I send my love, would you?"

He was gone, and Adam sagged slightly, leaning against the bedpost. He could feel his heart hammering in his chest, and drawing breath was nigh unto impossible, but Knox's fingers curled around his arm, pulling him back toward the door.

"I can take you back where I found you, if you want," he offered, with an air of indifference.

Numbness was spreading--was it shock, he wondered?--as Adam forced his feet to move, following him. Rage would follow, he was sure. And then a need for vengeance, to right this. But right now, he couldn't feel anything at all, but fear.

"It doesn't matter," he said. For the first time in three centuries, mortality was staring him in the face. "I'm a dead man anyway."

Molly really wants to start a, "I Hate Arthur Petrelli," club.

This? This was just...amazing, and probably could've happened, if silly David Anders never took the Scifi movie over Heroes. (Can't complain too much; Molly's character is only AWOL because during filming for Villians, Adair was filming like 3 featured movies.) I love the very last line, too: "It doesn't matter...I'm a dead man anyway." Because if I was a 300+ immortal who just realized I wasn't going to be immortal anymore, I'd totally give into that fear.

Adam is so there. So's Mohinder for that matter.

Yay! Thank you! And yes, v. v. silly David--he really should keep his options open, and so should they have, because no one knows what could happen in six months, y'know? Don't kill off your character with 300+ years of history to play with. And yay that the last line worked. I was all, "it's kind of dark and emo for him...." but then, I think he's got to go through that before he'd get back on the "I am going to put a bullet in that man's brain and get that fucking formula for myself" train.

Molly says Adam can be VP of said club.

Um, it would be dark and emo for the man, since never having to worry about your mortality for so, so long and then having too? Probably hella!traumatic for a guy who had to leave/watch those he loved die.

Freaking brilliant and totally how my personal canon goes--even if the show doesn't reflect it.

Yeah, it is. He's sort of staring at me in horror with this, "you're not actually going to make me PLAY THIS OUT, are you, you ungodly backstabbling little bitch?" look on his face. And I'm all, "...ummmmmmmmmmmm?"

*G* Yay! Thank you. :-D

I mean, we write them. We give them voice, and stories, and people to love when canon does bad things to them? We should be treated better than being cursed at and kicked.

On a completely unrelated note, I was just telling Alicia, that in my cold-medicine induced haze, I had a flash the other night as I was falling asleep of Choices!Matt bitching to another Matt--maybe Eden!Matt--about Molly having 3 daddies now. This amused me to no end when I woke up. Esp as he's not even my muse, but.

I tell Molly that I'm going to tell Mohinder, but she kicks me harder. Then there's D.L., snapping photos, laughing because he's my only laid back muse, and Tonks who just keeps out of everyone's buisiness because omgz she can make her hair change color.

Oh God, that is so win! Now I kind of have to have a fic where all my verse!character's talk to each other. Canon!Molly is all emo and dark--on Adam's boat, just a lot more sniffly--while Paradisa!Molly is :D cause she has a kitty, Choices!Molly is pretty awesome, and meta!Molly lulz at everyone else. Well, there's Stockholm!Molly, but she's creepy >.>

Dude, Molly's mean to you. Sark threatens to shoot me on a regular basis, so I guess I should be grateful Adam just curses. Mohinder gives me the eyes, and I'm all, "...omg, I'M SORRY. I WILL KISS AND MAKE BETTER???"

LOL. Oh, I do that lots, well. At least in my head. I wrote it out once for a prompt of who was getting kicked out of the headspace, I think, and once because Adam was flirting with Illryia and Wesley pitched a fit, but...*G*

Every now and then, as my thoughts wander, I bitch to myself about how the writers killed Adam. Was it really because of that Children of the Corn remake? If so, I feel slightly better about the whole thing, but still. If Arthur had done that to, say, Claire, would she have up and died too, or was it just supposed to be the Adam-is-really-fucking-old thing? Actually I don't see any reason for it to have killed him. No one else died from the Touch of Doom. :( (I'll quit rambling now.)

I have NO idea. I mean--it seems so much smarter to have done something like this and have him disappear and then...leave everyone's options open? That would just be better. Because it was supposed to be that Adam was fucking old, I think--I don't think Claire would have died.

It does! I mean, how could they--either TPTB, *or* David--have just tossed out a character with such potential? Adam, we hardly knew ye! And I don't say that just because I like him. Logically, creatively, etc etc etc, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

:-D It's what MAKES SENSE. Like, really--his cells had always healed. There was no reason they'd suddenly degenerate if they'd been healed and stopped from aging. Stupid writers.

Of course, Adam is all, "WTF, WHY HAVE YOU MADE ME NORMAL?" but, y'know. Muses.

:-) Thank you!

Seriously. I will refuse to ever let this go. It just made NO SENSE. Exactly, they said in the show that by a certain point he stopped aging, so WTF? This is what should of happened, he would of just turned mortal. BAD COP-OUT, WRITERS. BAD.

Haha, oh man, I can imagine ;D. But just think, Adam, would you prefer to be a pile of DUST!? :'( That's no fun, either.

Re: OOC

Date: 2009-02-14 05:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com
Exactly. So, if he stopped aging, then turning off his ability, he should just have become normal human. And if David had to go off and make movies--well, Monica's disappeared. Maya's mostly gone. Molly, Micah. Adam could "disappear" and then if David's schedule and their needs merged again, they could bring him back again. IDIOTS.

This is what I keep asking him??? And he's all, "no, but I like the ones where we just ignore it all together. Wtf, you're going to make me play being normal, aren't you....?"

Re: OOC

From: [identity profile] dancewithadevil.livejournal.com
I know! *sighs* I really wish we'd get confirmation on what happened and if this had to do with David actually deciding to focus on his other movies, or if this was more the writers being idiots. And yeah, they have characters disappear all the time, so why not Adam!? Knox could of just jabbed a needle in his arm, stolen some blood, and then left Adam in the damn alley. Adam wanted to stay out of Hiro's sight, so he could have easily disappeared. Do an early Sark thing; randomly show up without any warning and leave without a trace. Open a door and OH LOOK, IT'S ADAM!

Lol, well, denial is a lovely choice, I agree. I can appreciate Adam being stubborn; if I was all mighty and immortal for four hundred years and had to suddenly deal with the fact that you could die at any given moment... that would freak me out. Poor Adam :P.

(P.S. I ended up finishing the Adam mood theme first; it's posted [livejournal.com profile] aftersix_art if you wanted to see it.)

Yeah, I wish we would, too, and I don't know if we wever will. But that would've made so much more sense--to leave options open for everyone.

*G* Yeah, I get his p.o.v, but I'm all, "this could be LOVELY to play with!!" He is not nearly as excited as I am. lol

Re: ooc

From: [identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com
It really should have. It doesn't make SENSE that he'd suddenly rapidly age. Um, his cells repaired themselves. They were fine. Otherwise--when the eclipse happened? Every wound Claire had suffered should've come back and when Arthur took Peter's, ditto that. Like, if the cell's degenerated from their healing w/o the power, then Claire and Peter should've had effects from it, too. Because that's what Adam's power did for him--how it made him Immortal. Nothing mystical--it just kept healing his cells, so they never aged. Without his power, he should just start aging normally.

Stupid, illogical writers.
