The constant whining is annoying.

Yeah. Time's something you don't really have to worry about much.

It isn't as if I cease to value it. I've always been the only one with any guarantees of seeing what came the next year or decade.

I didn't mean that... I just-- I'm having issues with it myself.

I... kind of hope it doesn't. I'm sorry, Adam, but-- my brother, and... god. How do you deal with someone you love aging and dying when you don't change at all? I can't wrap my head around it...

There's nothing to apologize for, Peter. My preferences aside, I wouldn't...it isn't that bad. Watching what comes next is fascinating--but it always does seem like watching.

As for how to deal with it...I don't. For 300 years, I never let anyone get close enough that it would hurt when I lost them.

*faint frown, almost flinching back but doesn't, though there's a shadow in his eyes*

I learned to accustom myself to it.

I was a ghost, moving through time for so long. And then there you are, peeling back layers I kept hidden even from my so-called friends 30 years ago.

*turns enough to brush a kiss over his fingertips*

It's... not something I do consciously. As a matter of fact, when I try to do it, that's when I start screwing it up...

*briefly closes his eyes, tracing his lips*

You should....learn to control it the way you do other powers.

*gives a naughty smile and darts his tongue out to lick*

I honestly have no idea how to do that... not like ones where I can immediately tell when I'm using them, at least.

*fingers tighten just a moment, half smile*

Then you should work harder. You can't let it control you.

Can you teach me? I've always been pretty emotional -- it's hard to tell where my emotions end and someone else's start, sometimes. I just don't know how to control this one...

*faint indrawn breath, eyes watchful*

I can try. At least the controlling emotions part...I learned that one the long and hard way. Perhaps if you're more in control of your own emotions, you'll be better able to control the empathy.

Yeah, that might help. If you can succeed where Mom and Nathan and Claude haven't, it'll be great.
