*sighs* I wish there was a way to make them see it that wouldn't make us the bad guys...

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
They are already convinced I am the bad guy, Peter, and nothing will change that.

*gently* There's a difference between them thinking you're the bad guy, and us actually being the bad guys.

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
*philosophically* Is there? Isn't it all about perception, really? Truth and history are the stories of the ones who won, who style themselves the good guys, in the long run.

If they have the power and they think I am the bad guy and they are the ones telling the story that will last...*faint shrug*

No! No, there's a huge difference... Do you just want to appear good in the history books, or do you want to be good?

ooc: sorry for the long delay in answering things -- been working on stuff with Claude. omg the care and feeding of your emo!Claude...

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-01 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Who defines what is good, Peter? Who decides, and where do we learn, if not from history? The Church? The Church is a political instrument, as it always has been, forcing it's version of morality with the whip or the flame, no matter which side of the line you are on. Is that good? Is it right to brand a woman because of her husband's accusations, because of a child who is different? What sort of "goodness" is that? And if that is what our religious leaders would do...where can we turn to find what is good? What is right?

History is all we have.

ooc: No worries! Though Adam missed Peter. *snugs him* I told him I was catching up on other things, too, and he could deal. ;-) And, err, sorry for his massively emo musings. He's been like that for a while now.

Okay, so maybe I'm a naive child, but I think good is helping people when they need it. Giving aid to those who are hurt, or hungry, or sick. And I may have been raised a good Roman Catholic boy, but I think you know enough about me to know I don't agree with a lot of things the Church says...

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't call you a child. I asked a question. And I would agree those things are good. I saved a village in Japan. I saved a whole contingent of my men in World War II--even got a medal--and helped with the survivors of the concentration camps. And yet, I am still deemed evil by pretty much everyone I've ever cared for. No one sees the bigger picture, and no one can point to things without drawing lines, and all that will be remembered are the bad things.

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-03 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
No, you didn't. I did. Me, and Claude -- well, he went as far as adolescent, at least -- and sometimes even Nathan. *sighs* So you'd rather be remembered as a good guy than actually be a good guy? Help me understand, Adam -- I honestly don't get it. We have all these powers -- we can help people. I bet the men you saved -- and the survivors of those camps -- thanked you. Aren't they more important than some history book?

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't...I don't know what I'd rather, Peter. They did. They said thank you and it meant a great deal. But what "help" means is all jumbled up now, with wondering why I even...

Nevermind. I don't even know what I'm saying anymore.

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-03 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
*softly* I'm sorry...
youngerpetrelli: (Peter & Adam)

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-04 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
*strokes his cheek* It's okay...

ooc: *lol* Between the obsession with Irish!Simone and this, our boys are apparently having a lot more fun with women than either of them realized!

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
*emphatic* No. It's not okay. Nothing is okay.

ooc: *snerk* Seriously. I mean, DUDE. That's a fast wedding.
youngerpetrelli: (Peter & Adam)

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-04 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
*concerned* Adam?

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
*shakes his head* I don't know who I am anymore.
youngerpetrelli: (Peter & Adam)

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-04 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
*takes his hands* God, Adam, I'm sorry...

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
*shakes his head*

It's not your fault. It's mine.
youngerpetrelli: (Peter & Adam)

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-04 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
*pulls him into a gentle embrace*

It's nobody's fault, Adam -- jesus, you were imprisoned for thirty years. Things like that are going to affect you, no matter how old you are! *frowns* Well... actually I guess it is someone's fault -- it's theirs.

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
*resists for a moment, then slowly presses close to him, arms sliding tight around him, almost a little desperate, not sure what to say*

youngerpetrelli: (Peter & Adam)

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-04 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
*holds him close, trying to be soothing and supportive* I'm here...

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
*mutters into his shoulder* This is ridiculous...*but still clings*
youngerpetrelli: (Peter & Adam)

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-04 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
*comforting* It's not ridiculous. God, Adam, if it wasn't for the other 370 years of your life, you might be a complete wreck. *soft kiss* You may be immortal, but psychologically you're still only human.

[identity profile] changehistory.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That must be terribly disappointing...*attempt at humor, at a smile, but his eyes are closed a little too tightly*
youngerpetrelli: (Peter & Adam)

[personal profile] youngerpetrelli 2008-01-05 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
*softly* It's not -- it's not disappointing. You're one of us, whether you feel like it or not... *frowns* Please tell me you aren't disappointed...
