Apparently computers can get infected with viruses, which is just bizarre.

Apparently mine has.

I keep getting windows popping up with all sorts of things I have no interest in seeing, let alone hearing.

How do I make it stop?

Um... but probably not more useful.

I remember the instructions I got -- they said if you can't run the virus check software, you should turn it off and disconnect it before you lose more files or spread the virus, then bring it into a store to have someone who... um. knows what they're doing... take a look at it.

Right. I think Micah's sort of walked me through that a bit, though no one's told me how to not let it happen again.

Well... they say you're not supposed to open any e-mail with an attachment that you're not expecting to receive, no matter who it appears to be from. And of course, you have to be careful what sites you surf. The people who make viruses use social engineering to sucker people in -- they know the kinds of things that will draw people in, and once you click on it, it's too late. Always make sure your virus check software is on... Does that help?

That you missed it? I think so, but I grew up listening to it -- it helps having an older brother. *grins* There was a tv channel called MTV that just showed music videos... now it shows just about everything but!
