Because there needs to be something fun among the angst...



Because kissing under the mistletoe is an ancient and festive tradition... and because I feel there can always be more kissing about.

Two ways to play:

Request kisses.
If there's someone you'd like a kiss from, repost the picture above in a comment. Please be considerate--tag the muse's in-character contact post, or an old meme post, something like that. Don't tag a prompt response, a fic, or an RP thread. You may also post the picture to your journal, and mark the entry locked to whomever you want the kiss from.

Offer kisses.
If you're feeling particularly bold or adventurous, post the picture in your journal, note that it's open to all, and let people ask for kisses from you. Give them at least a sentence or two in response, though--none of this "*kiss*" nonsense, that's no fun.

When you post, kindly either repost these rules, or link to this post of Shelley's.

Consider this an open offer for kisses to anyone who would like them from me, and utterly and totally meta with no binding on either muse without full consent of both writers involved.

There's a risk to it, which only makes it more intriguing. He pours her a glass of his favorite whiskey, far better than wine, watching her as she takes a sip or two, with a smile.

He's settled near her, and reaches out to brush his fingers down to her jaw, tilting it toward him with a gentle touch.

"There's worlds of possibilities," he murmurs, eyes searching, and then he kisses her, softly at first, then with an exploratory intensity, as he forgets all about the whiskey.

Without breaking off the contact between them, she stretches out her arm, setting the glass down on the table. The whiskey still lingers on her lips, mixing with the taste of him as she responds in kind, her hands going to her shoulders to steady herself.

Taking that for a moment of assent, he deepens the kiss, shifting closer still, fascinated by her cooler skin, the dual heart beat, everything that screams "Other" even to one like him.

She hesitates for a moment, mildly confused and unsure, but then she decides that however unexpected this is, she will retain the upper hand. She presses closer, her hands sliding up and over his shoulders, arms winding loosely around his neck. She parts her lips, making the kiss even more insistent and urgent.

Adam slides his arms around her in return, fingers slipping along her spine, then back down to settle on her hips. He meets her urgency with his own, shivering a little in response to her insistence, but unwilling to pull away from it.

She draws in an audible breath through her nose as his hands travel down her body and come to rest on her hips, shifting just a fraction closer, losing herself in the kiss momentarily.

And then she disengages, a bit flushed and breathless. "That's quite enough," she murmurs, but it's not the recrimination it could be; her voice is instead soft and merely stating a fact. "We must stop."

His lips curl into a rueful smile, letting her ease back from him. "Of course...."

"Of course," she repeats, withdrawing, shifting back away from him just a bit, though not as far away as when they started. She clears her throat, and leans forward, picking up the glass of whiskey and bringing it to her lips, her eyes watchful over the rim.

He smiles a little, taking his own and sipping it, leaning back against the sofa, watching her just as carefully. "I didn't mean to discomfit you."

"It isn't you," she murmurs, after swallowing a mouthful of whiskey. "I'm just not accustomed to considering someone else's feelings or wishes."

"Nor am I," he says with a slightly rueful smile.

She shakes her head, as if she can't quite believe herself. "And to think... not all that long ago, I wouldn't have stopped to think. But you've indicated he's your friend; that's a line that doesn't bear crossing. He tolerates the rest, but I daresay going there with someone he considers a friend would merely be rubbing his nose in it. I don't care to do that."

"No," he said quietly. "Nor would I. Forgive me for...taking advantage of the moment."

"There's nothing to forgive."

She eyed him, choosing her words carefully.

"To say you took advantage implies unwillingness on my part. That... was not present."

He smiled a little. "I'm glad of that, at least."

"Then I'm pleased I can give you that."

She smirked.

"Since I can't give you anything else..."

He pouted, mostly joking.

"Just my luck to get here too late."

Her smirk widened, and took on a more wicked cast.

"Now you see why I time travel," she teased back.

He laughed. "Well, I was alive a solid two hundred years before he was even born...."

She laughed softly. "Are you suggesting I go back, then?" she asked, arching an eyebrow. "That's still hardly fair. And..."

Her tone went a bit more serious.

"It's not really a matter of who arrived first, or who met me first. It's far deeper than that."

"I know," he said, serious for a moment, then flashed her a wicked grin. "But you can't blame a fellow for trying. He is a lucky man."

"As it happens," she announced imperiously, though her eyes were still lit with amusement, "he is."

Another smile turned her mouth, and she added, "Though I suspect I'm just slightly more fortunate. And yes, Adam, it was a most excellent try. I don't fault you for it; in your shoes I'd have done much the same."

She drained the rest of her glass, studied his face a moment, and then leaned in for another kiss, her lips brushing his chastely, lingering for a long moment.

"Thank you for understanding."

"Despite rumors to the contrary, I can be quite reasonable," he said with a wry smile.

Her hand strayed up to his face, the backs of her fingers stroking gently over his jaw as she pulled away.

"It's good to know I can rely on that," she replied, returning his smile faintly.
