Because there needs to be something fun among the angst...



Because kissing under the mistletoe is an ancient and festive tradition... and because I feel there can always be more kissing about.

Two ways to play:

Request kisses.
If there's someone you'd like a kiss from, repost the picture above in a comment. Please be considerate--tag the muse's in-character contact post, or an old meme post, something like that. Don't tag a prompt response, a fic, or an RP thread. You may also post the picture to your journal, and mark the entry locked to whomever you want the kiss from.

Offer kisses.
If you're feeling particularly bold or adventurous, post the picture in your journal, note that it's open to all, and let people ask for kisses from you. Give them at least a sentence or two in response, though--none of this "*kiss*" nonsense, that's no fun.

When you post, kindly either repost these rules, or link to this post of Shelley's.

Consider this an open offer for kisses to anyone who would like them from me, and utterly and totally meta with no binding on either muse without full consent of both writers involved.

She smirked.

He pouted, mostly joking.

"Just my luck to get here too late."

Her smirk widened, and took on a more wicked cast.

"Now you see why I time travel," she teased back.

He laughed. "Well, I was alive a solid two hundred years before he was even born...."

She laughed softly. "Are you suggesting I go back, then?" she asked, arching an eyebrow. "That's still hardly fair. And..."

Her tone went a bit more serious.

"It's not really a matter of who arrived first, or who met me first. It's far deeper than that."

"I know," he said, serious for a moment, then flashed her a wicked grin. "But you can't blame a fellow for trying. He is a lucky man."

"As it happens," she announced imperiously, though her eyes were still lit with amusement, "he is."

Another smile turned her mouth, and she added, "Though I suspect I'm just slightly more fortunate. And yes, Adam, it was a most excellent try. I don't fault you for it; in your shoes I'd have done much the same."

She drained the rest of her glass, studied his face a moment, and then leaned in for another kiss, her lips brushing his chastely, lingering for a long moment.

"Thank you for understanding."

He returned the kiss, just as chaste.

"Despite rumors to the contrary, I can be quite reasonable," he said with a wry smile.

Her hand strayed up to his face, the backs of her fingers stroking gently over his jaw as she pulled away.

"It's good to know I can rely on that," she replied, returning his smile faintly.

"I have a feeling that were I to prove unreasonable you would have no problem handling that," he said with an arch of his eyebrow.

"You would, of course, be entirely correct," she replied. "I make short work of anyone who's unreasonable. But I do appreciate not having to expend the effort, and being shown the respect."

He bowed his head in a gesture more of respect than even a courtly one, his time in the Orient coming to the fore. "Then let me say I am a fan of reasonableness."

The Rani studied Adam for a second, then nodded, a faint smile spreading across her lips. "Thank you," she murmured, reaching across to draw her fingers lightly across his cheek.

He smiled a bit, capturing her hand and bringing it to his lips.

"Of course."

She smiled indulgently, a hint of color creeping across her cheeks, and she extended a finger, tracing his upper lip for just a fleeting moment.

He sighed, easing back from her a little.

"You make it very difficult for me to behave."

She withdrew her hand, letting it fall to rest almost primly in her lap, her gaze dropping for a moment, as well, before her eyes met his again.

"Behaving has never been my strong suit. I fear I'm not a good influence in the least. I do tend to have that effect on people."

"It's never really been anything I was good at either," he confessed with a rueful smile.

"I do seem to draw a similar type of person to me," she noted dryly. "It would seem this is to become an exercise in self-restraint."

"Are you up for the challenge?" he asked, taking a sip of his whiskey. "Or should we cut our losses and walk away?"

She arched an eyebrow, holding out her glass for a refill. "I never walk away from anything, Adam. Nor do I 'cut losses'."

He lifted the decanter, refilling her glass, then his own. Lifting his glass he smiled a little. "To exercises in self-discipline?"

She smirked, and nodded, raising her own glass in salute. "To willpower."

He chuckled and sipped his whiskey, leaning back on the sofa, watching her with a curious sort of intensity. "Now what?"

She closed the fingers of both her hands around her glass, flashing him an apparently offhanded smile. "Now we go back to having a pleasant conversation, all the while pretending we both are not thinking the completely filthy things we are thinking about one another the whole time."
